Star of the Week: Jenny & Kelly

IMG_2057Jenny is a friend to all at BrightStone. She has a beautiful smile and a happy greeting that lets everyone know she's in the building. She's always willing to lend a hand by helping a friend hang their smock or putting away things after a work session. She loves to play Uno on Fridays after a trip to the bowling alley. Her favorite restaurant is Chick-fil-a and her favorite product we make is fudge. Congratulations, Jenny!  
IMG_2047 Kelly is one of a kind! She has been at BrightStone since the beginning and has a milestone birthday coming up in February. The highlight of Kelly's week is when Ms. Judy comes for music. She absolutely loves her and always requests to lead "Waddle-acha." Kelly enjoys painting and making bowls in the Ceramics classroom. She also like yoga and is always ready to strike a pose. Way to go, Kelly!

Star of the Week: Allen & Sean

allanAllen is a great BrightStone employee! He loves coming to BrightStone to be with his friends and he always works hard. His favorite work area is the Paint Room and he enjoys going to Chick-Fil-A on our Friday field trips. Allen has a lot of fun cooking lunch and preparing snack in the kitchen. His favorite restaurant is Sonic and he likes watching football in his leisure time. Congratulations, Allen!  
sean   Sean enjoys a little mischief! He likes to play jokes and just has a great sense of humor. His friends say he is very funny, which he is, and that he always has that wonderful smile on his face. Sean likes to eat Chinese food with his family and cheer on the Titans. At BrightStone, he enjoys playing Xbox bowling during activity time and making mugs in the Ceramics classroom. Way to go, Sean!

Star of the Week: Kelly & Don

kellyKelly was so excited to be named "Star of the Week!" We have talked a lot about it this week in our classes and what it takes to earn this aware. Kelly has set a great example by following directions and being kind to everyone. While at BrightStone, she enjoys the Learning Lab and working in the kitchen with Alexa. We all agree, she has the best imagination and entertains us with her stories. Congratulations, Kelly!
donDon is a popular guy at BrightStone. He always has a friendly "hello" for everyone and enjoys visiting with his friends. He is such an inspiration to us all and is always on board for whatever task he is assigned. Some of his BrightStone favorites are bowling on Fridays and working in the Consumables classroom. He enjoys Taco Salad at lunch and singing Christmas songs in music. Way to go, Don!

Development Associate (Full Time)

Current Posting Expires: 3/10/2017 Position Description - Responsibilities and Requirements: Background:  A one of a kind institution in middle Tennessee, BrightStone enables adults with developmental disabilities to expand their unique potential while enriching their lives and supporting families on a daily basis.  BrightStone’s comprehensive day programs, provided in a loving environment, support our adult students through various forms of social, education and arts engagement.  Our many day programs and classes focus on enabling students to live a complete life through work training and life-learning experiences, physical, emotional and mental development and spiritual well-being. BrightStone is now embarking on a bold multi-year strategic plan to expand our programs, our campus and the number of adults we are able to serve in day and residential programs. Our vision is to provide whole life care, meeting the needs of job, home, recreation and social well-being as well as emotional and physical health in a God-centered, caring environment on a beautiful 138- acre campus located near Franklin. We seek a development professional to join the BrightStone advancement team and the BrightStone family.  This professional will play a key role in the upcoming fundraising campaign we envision and the fulfillment of our vision for the future. Purpose of Position:  The Development Associate will be a critical member of the campaign team, assisting the Advancement department in reaching revenue goals and cultivating future donors. S/he will assist the Director of Advancement with planning, managing and executing fundraising annual benefits, cultivation events and programs and prospect/donor tours.  S/he will coordinate donor relations and stewardship activities, assist in prospect research activities and manage the database.  S/he will collaborate and coordinate with the Communications Coordinator in the execution of donor communications and mailings to ensure comprehensive and seamless communications with all donors and prospects. S/he will also oversee the volunteer program. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
  1. Passion for serving others, especially adults with special needs.
  2. Willingness to work as a team and take direction; ability to meet deadlines; finds solutions to problems.
  3. Proficient using Microsoft Office, email management, calendaring, and database entry.
  4. Experience with donor databases and database management.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; highly customer and donor centric.
  6. Enthusiastic and energetic team player; a self-starter with a positive outlook.
  7. Excellent health
Experience and Attributes Desired 
  • A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in event planning and working for a nonprofit in development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to interact with donors, students and families with good judgment and tact
  • Experience with peer-to-peer fundraising is highly desirable

Communication Coordinator (Part Time)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Publications (Newsletters, brochures, invitations,postcards, flyers, annual reports, stationary) Editorial/Photo/Video Content; Website; Social Media; E-Newsletters and e-blasts; Press Releases, Publicity and Media Relations; Print Inventory Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

  • Periodic evening and weekend work will be required; flexibility with hours and schedule is expected.
Experience Desired  A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 to 5 years writing experience producing editorial content, photos and videos within a marketing or communications department, preferably for a nonprofit organization; excellent verbal and written communications skills; Must be proficient with social media platforms,WordPress; Prefer some experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. Star of the Week: Stephanie and Kate


stephanieStephanie is such a conscientious young lady. She takes her work at BrightStone very seriously, always giving 100% to whatever she does. Her greatest assets are her ability to make friends and her generous nature. Some of Stephanie's favorite things about BrightStone are the Packaging classroom, singing "Rocky Top" in music class and going to Krispy Kreme on our Friday field trips. Congratulations, Steph!


kateKate is not only dependable, but is very willing and capable in all work areas. She is kind hearted and is very encouraging to all her fellow BrightStone friends. The things she likes most about her day at BrightStone are making platters in Ceramics, enjoying baked potato bar at lunch and helping prepare snack and lunch with Alexa. In her leisure time, she enjoys cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals and eating with her family at the Chop House. Way to go, Kate!
