BrightStone will celebrate National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month by hosting a variety of activities during the month of March.
To acquaint people with our mission and vision. BrightStone will host an Open House on Wednesday, March 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Many people in our community have participated in or attended our events, and/or supported others who have. We hope that all will come by our Open House on March 13 to visit, and see firsthand the impact that their support has had on the adults that we serve, adults who face each day with the challenges of developmental disabilities. And, we hope that they can join us for a meal with one of our GiveBack partners! exclaimed Brenda Hauk, Executive Director.
In addition, a number of restaurants in the local community have partnered with BrightStone to GiveBack by hosting days/times in which a percentage of the proceeds from diners will benefit BrightStone. All funds received from these nights will be attributed to our Enhance the Chance Scholarship fund. This fund provides for adults, who cannot otherwise attend BrightStone, to experience opportunities for continued education, job skills training, productive work, life skills training and community service---with love and respect.

In 1987, President Ronald Reagan declared March as National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. The proclamation called for people to provide understanding, encouragement and opportunities to help persons with developmental disabilities to lead productive and fulfilling lives. BrightStone has been celebrating the ABILITIES of adults with special needs for over twelve years.
BrightStone started with only four adult students, volunteer staff, and donated space, and has now grown to serve 35 adults, with a paid staff of 20, in our own 9,000+ square foot building, complete with a teaching kitchen and a learning lab. BrightStone offers a variety of opportunities for job training and life skills education, as well as a health and wellness program, music program and community outings. BrightStones vision is to expand, both in numbers served and in the programs provided, and especially to incorporate residential services for adults who live each day with developmental disabilities.
BrightStones mission is to provide a comprehensive work, social support, and future residential community for adults with special needs, expanding their potential and helping them develop mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
